PINOCHLE
Sometimes known as Binocle, Pinocle or Penuchle, is a trick-taking card game typically for two to four players and played with a 48-card deck. It is derived from the card game bezique; players score points by trick-taking and also by forming combinations of cards into melds. It is thus considered part of a “trick-and-meld” category which also includes the game Belote.
Each hand is played in three phases: bidding, melds, and tricks. The standard game today is called “partnership auction pinochle.”
Members from all three local branches show up at noon each Monday at the Pine Tree Restaurant to eat lunch and get ready for the games.
We don’t pay for the room because they trust most of the players will buy a lunch that helps offset costs.
Most players hadn’t held a pinochle hand in 30 or 40 years, so, don’t use that as an excuse to not want to show up. We’ll help you until you’re ready to play.
We usually play “Cut Throat”, Single Deck, 3 Player games. For variation, we play 4 and 5-player games, Partners and even with and without 9’s. We add a Joker once in a while but all players get a say on what the games are each week.
