MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Meeting Date: October 1, 2007 Place: Papa’s New Roost

Big Sir Roy Sweeney opened the meeting at 8:00 AM and introduced Sir Dick Chimenti, who was inducted into our Branch at the its last meeting luncheon. After self-introductions, Secretary Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). The minutes of the September 4, 2007 BEC meeting were approved as sent to all Officers and Directors by electronic media. (Beltran/Smith).

TREASURER’S REPORT:

Assistant Treasurer Richard Robinson Brandau reported a beginning balance of $3025.33 and an ending balance of $2692.42 for the month of September. The major expenditures were: Printing and Supplies - $102.36; and Postage - $61.50; and State Pro Rata Assessment - $148.00. Assistant Treasurer Brandau reported that 43 Sirs have made their $20 voluntary contribution for 2008. The report was approved (Denhard/Spierling).

ATTENDANCE:

Attendance Chairman Herb Spierling reported 33 Sirs had called that they would not be attending Thursday’s luncheon. Assistance Attendance Chairman Bill Bamford reported that 9 guests would be attending.

MEMBERSHIP:

Membership Chairman Lee Piercey reported that he had no changes in membership status during the month. Nineteen men are on the waiting list for membership. Big Sir Sweeney reported that Sir Ed Cabral is very ill and probably will not be attending any meetings in the future. Sir Cabral, who is too ill to request to bebeing put on inactive status, hads been a good attendee before he became ill. Following discussion, the consensus of the BEC was to retain Sir Cabral as a member in good standing, retain his badge should he be able to attend a meeting, but re-issue his number to the person next on the waiting list.

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

LUNCHEON: Sir Henry Beltran will inform the Elks Lodge to set places for 118 Sirs and guests, in addition to the head table, for Thursday’s luncheon. Little Sir Don Denhard and Sir Beltran will be meeting with the Elks’ Manager and Chef to work out the meeting dates and luncheon menus for next year.

PROGRAM: Little Sir Don Denhard reported that the program speaker for Thursday’s luncheon meeting will be Ron Patel, who will give an update of the future facility plans for the Black Oak Casino and its conference center. Next month’s speaker will be Elzi Gerrels, who will talk about "Manned Space Exploration".

COMPUTER USER’S GROUP: Sir Rich Froisness reported that a joint meeting with the Digital Photography Group will be held October 18, 2007, at the China House in Twain Harte to discuss Picasa and Photoshop Elements computer photo programsapplications.

WEB PAGE: Sir Don Denhard requested members’ input and reported that the Branch will need a new Webmaster when he becomes Big Sir next year.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY GROUP: See Computer User’s Group.

GOLF: Sir Gil Wesson reported that the next tournament will be at La Contenta October 2, 20079th.

BULLETIN: Sir Ed Nissen stated that Tthe deadline for October bulletin items is October 6th.

PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that he could not confirm that meeting notices were published in either newspaper.

TRAVEL: Sir Earl Nelson, in absentia, reported that 31 Sirs/Guests have signed up, to date, for the Rose Parade Trip 12/31/07 – 01/02/08, and 18 Sirs/Guests have signed up, to date, for the Riverboat trip titled Castles Along the Rhine & Danube.

RV: No Report.

THEATER: Signups are still being taken for Forever Plaid which will play October 24th. Ten seats are still available. Sirs Dennis Honeychurch and Bill Bamford are hosting this play with dinner to follow. Sir Ralph Bushnell will host the last play of the season, White Christmas on November 28th.

HIKING: Sir Jerry Jensen requested approval for a hike to Cleo’s Bath starting at Pinecrest Lake, on October 10, 2007th, carpooling from Eproson Park in Twain Harte. Approved (Beltran/Smith).

MOVIE: Sir Ralph Bushnell requested approval for Luncheon and a Movie for October, the title and date to be determined. Approved (Smith/Beltran).

OLD BUSINESS

Christmas Dinner Party

Sir Henry Beltran reported that ticket sales will commence at October luncheon meeting. The cost will be $25 per person. Sir Joe Smith will take ticket orders by email or snail mail.

 

 

New Business

Propane Coop

Big Sir Sweeney reported that he had confirmed that J. S. West will continue to furnish propane at the Coop price to any widow of a Sir, who was signed up prior to his death.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 AM

The next BEC meeting will be at Papa’s New Roost on Monday October 29, at 8:00 AM.
