MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Meeting Date: September 4, 2007 Place: Papa’s New Roost
Big Sir Roy Sweeney opened the meeting at 8:00 AM and introduced Sir Stu Heller, who will take over as Bulletin Editor in 2008. After self-introductions, Secretary Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). The minutes of the July 30, 2007 BEC meeting were approved as sent to all Officers and Directors by electronic media. (Beltran/Smith).
TREASURER’S REPORT:
Assistant Treasurer Richard Robinson Brandau reported a beginning balance of $3188.38 and an ending balance of $3025.33 for the month of August. The major expenditures were: Printing and Supplies - $85.77; and Postage - $69.89. Assistant The report was approved (Pfoutz/Feaster).
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance Chairman Herb Spierling reported 21 Sirs had called that they would not be attending Thursday’ luncheon. Assistance Attendance Chairman Bill Bamford reported that 8 guests would be attending.
MEMBERSHIP:
Assistant Attendance Chairman Ralph Legg, reported that with the passing of Sir Gordon Willey and the resignations of Doug Vierth because of attendance problems and Zim Zimmerman due to lack of interest, three vacancies now exist. John Barton, Dan Schroeder and Richard S. Chimenti, the top three people on the waiting list, will be inducted at Thursday’s Luncheon Meeting. Assistant Attendance Chairman Legg requested approval, pending memberships becoming available, for Gary Davidson, Cliff Simpson and Donald Walton. Approved (Feaster/Smith). The membership stands at 150 active members, 5 inactive members and a waiting list of 19.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
LUNCHEON: Sir Henry Beltran will inform the Elks Lodge to set places for 128 Sirs and guests, in addition to the head table, for Thursday’s luncheon.
PROGRAM: Little Sir Don Denhard reported that the program speaker for Thursday will be Beverly Hennessey, Manager of Regional Government Affairs, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. Ms. Hennessey will discuss the history of the Hetch-Hetchy water system and the significant contribution that it makes to the Northern California Community. Little Sir Denhard reported that the program speaker for next month will be Ron Patel, who will give an update of the future facility plans for the Black Oak Casino and its conference center.
COMPUTER USER’S GROUP: Sir Ray Pfoutz requested approval for a joint meeting with the Digital Photography Group for October 18, 2007, at the China House in Twain Harte to discuss Picasa and Photoshop Elements computer photo programs. Approved (Pfoutz/Smith).
WEB PAGE: Sir Don Denhard reported that the web page is up to date.
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY GROUP: See Computer User’s Group.
GOLF: Sir Gil Wesson reported that the next tournament will be at Atwater on September 11.
BULLETIN: Sir Stu Heller stated that Tthe deadline for September bulletin items is September 10. Sir Heller reported that he had to purchase new, up-to-date, publishing software, at a cost of $63.98 and requested reimbursement for this expense. Reimbursement for this expenditure was approved. (Robinson/Feaster).
PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that both the Union Democrat and the Mountain Times reported notices of our luncheon meeting.
TRAVEL: Sir Earl Nelson reported that 31 Sirs/Guests have signed up, to date, for the Rose Parade Trip12/31/07 – 01/02/08, and 12 Sirs/Guests have signed up, to date, for the Riverboat trip titled Castles Along the Rhine & Danube starting at Budapest and ending in Amsterdam 09/25/08 – 10/10/08, operated by Vantage Deluxe World Travel Company. Sir Nelson submitted Forms 53 for each of these travel events and requested approval in accordance with Rules 405, 406 and 407. Approved (Feaster/Pfoutz).
RV: Sir Earl Nelson reported that the last RV event of the season is a trip that will culminate in St. George, Utah. Sir Nelson further reported that over 30 Sirs/Guests will participate in this event, leaving at various times, by various routes, arriving in St. George at approximately the same time.
THEATER: The next stage play is Paint Your Wagon on September 12, followed by dinner at Birdies in Mountain Springs. Signups are being taken for Forever Plaid which will play in October.
HIKING: Sir Jerry Jensen, by email, requested approval for a hike starting at the Lake Eleanor Trail Head for September 20, 2007, carpooling from Eproson Park in Twain Harte. Approved (Feaster/Spierling).
MOVIE: Sir Gil Wesson requested approval for Luncheon and a Movie for September, the title and date to be determined. Approved (Robinson/Beltran).
FELLOWSHIP: Big Sir Roy Sweeney reported that Sir Gordon Willey had passed away. Big Sir Sweeney will notify Sir Carl Nunes to be certain that a card is sent.
FISHING: Sir Herb Spierling reported that Sonora Branch 136 is sponsoring a Salmon fishing trip to the Klamath River. Anyone interested in going on this trip should contact Sir Spierling.
OLD BUSINESS
Christmas Dinner Party
Sir Henry Beltran reported that plans are on schedule and ticket sales will commence in October. The cost will be $25 per person. Big Sir Roy Sweeney will reported that singers Julie Ludlum and her husband would provide the entertainment for our Christmas Dinner Program.
