MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Meeting Date: December 4, 2006 Place: Papa's New Roost

Big Sir Dick Feaster opened the meeting at 8:00 AM.

Secretary Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance

report). Big Sir Feaster welcomed Sir Jim McCracken, 2007 Assistant Luncheon Chairman and Sir Ralph Legg, 2007 Assistant Membership Chairman to the meeting and called for self-introductions. The minutes of the October 30, 2006 Branch Executive Committee (BEC) were approved as presented to each officer and director by email. (Smith/Wellwood).

TREASURER'S REPORT: Treasurer Earl Nelson reported a beginning cash balance of $3903.17 and an ending cash balance of $8345.02 for the month of November. The major expenses for the month were $171.35 State Pro Rata Assessment, $124.80 for postage and $ 64.22 for printing and supplies. Ninety-one Sirs have contributed their $20 donation for 2007. The Treasurer’s Report was approved. (Wellwood/Piercey).

ATTENDANCE: Following the November BEC meeting, Big Sir Feaster appointed Sir Dave Holton to Chair a special committee with Sirs Jim Johnson, Lee Piercey and Dan Mohn as members, to study the protocol for and produce a draft of a Branch Regulation bringing consistency into the Branch’s attendance and membership guidelines, working within SIR rules. Sir Dave Holton presented the Special Committee’s Draft Branch Regulation to the BEC for review and comment. Extensive discussion ensued and the BEC made recommendations for changes to the draft. Big Sir Feaster requested that the committee consider the BEC’s recommendations and comments and return a final Branch Regulation to the BEC for approval at its January 2, 2007 meeting.

MEMBERSHIP: Membership Chairman Lee Piercey reported that Sir James Stewart has requested inactive status due to health issues and moved that the BEC approve this

action. Approved (Piercey/Holton). Chairman Piercey requested approval for the following new members pending memberships becoming available: Stu Heller and John Barton. Approved (Smith/Wellwood). The membership stands at 150 active, 6 inactive and 6 on hold.

 

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

LUNCHEON: Big Sir Feaster reported that the Twain Harte Golf Club has hired a full time Chef team: Lonnie and Carrie Taylor. They will be preparing the SIR luncheons and the Christmas Dinner as well. Luncheon Chairman Don Wooldridge will inform the Golf Club to set up for 120 Sirs along with a projection table and screen. One hundred and twenty seven Sirs and guests were served last month.

PROGRAM: The speaker for Thursday’s luncheon will be Sir Ray Pfoutz. Sir Pfoutz will present a program of photos that he took on a recent trip to China. Officers and Directors for 2007 will be installed and out-going Officers, Directors, Committee Chairmen and Assistant Chairman will be honored.

COMPUTER USERS GROUP: There will be no meeting in December.

WEB PAGE: Sir Don Denhard reported that the Web Page is up to date. Big Sir Feaster complimented Sir Denhard on being a great web-master for the past year. Sir Denhard agreed to continue as web-master for 2007.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY GROUP: Sir Ray Pfoutz will have a meeting in January or February on the art of digital photography.

GOLF GROUP: No Report.

BULLETIN: Sir Ed Nissen needs input for the bulletin by December 9, 2006.

PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that both the Union Democrat and the Sierra Mountain Times published a notice of Thursday’s meeting.

TRAVEL: Sir Mike Eachus reported that 12 Sirs and spouses have signed up for the 50th Anniversary Cruise to Hawaii in 2008. Sir Eachus informed the BEC that he would be retiring as Travel Chairman at the end of the month.

RV GROUP: Sir Harvey Uhl requested approval of the following RV Club travel and activity schedule for 2007:

October 26 Potluck and Planning Meeting, Crystal Falls Club House, Sonora, CA

December – Exact date and place to be announced, RV Group Christmas Dinner Party

THEATER GROUP: Sir John Kinsfather reported that 64 Sirs and spouses/guests attended the play "Hello Dolly", and 62 attended the dinner following the play.

HIKING GROUP: Sir Jerry Jensen requested approval for a hike at New Melones Reservoir: to Heron Point and return, on Tuesday, December 12, 2006. Carpool from The Junction Shopping Center, Sonora. Approved (Piercey/Holton).

MOVIE GROUP: Sir Ralph Bushnell reported that 11 Sirs attended the movie "Casino Royale" in November. Sir Bushnell requested approval to have a "SIR Lunch and a Movie" once each month for 2007, the exact date each month will be determined by the movie selected, at the Regal Cinemas Stadium 10 Theater, Sonora, CA. Approved (Nelson/Smith).

FELLOWSHIP: Sir Mike Fryhoff is being treated for cancer in Southern California. Sir Carl Nunes will send an appropriate card.

FISHING GROUP: Sir Herb Spierling reported that Branch 136’s fishing group is planning a trip to Mexico in the spring and has invited Branch 172 Sirs to participate. The trip will be 3 days of fishing and 5 days total including travel time. Sir Spierling will announce this trip at Thursday’s luncheon meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:

SIR SHIRTS AND HATS: Sirs who ordered shirts and hats will be able to pick them up at the January luncheon meeting.

CHRISTMAS DINNER PARTY: Sir Henry Beltran reported that only six tickets remain and he anticipates that all the remaining tickets will be sold at Thursday’s luncheon meeting. The "Singing Nuns" will provide the after dinner entertainment.

NEW BUSINESS:

Several BEC members would like to discuss having a "Christmas Luncheon" rather than a "Christmas Dinner Party". Big Sir Feaster deferred this discussion to the 2007 BEC.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:35 AM.

The next Executive Committee meeting will be 8:00 AM Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at Papa’s New Roost.
