MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

 

Meeting Date: November 3, 2008                                            Place: Papa’s New Roost

 

Big Sir Don Denhard opened the meeting at 7:57AM. Ass’t Secretary Dick Feaster reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). The minutes of the October BEC meeting were approved based on the Email review (Nissen, Pfoutz).

 

TREASURER’S REPORT:

Assistant treasurer Richard Robinson reported a beginning balance of $3861.20 and an ending balance of $4121.18 for the month of October. The report was approved (Nissen, Pfoutz).

 

ATTENDANCE:

Sir Herb Spierling reported that so far 23 members have called in to advise they would not be attending next Thursday’s luncheon meeting. Sir Bill Bamford reported that he is expecting seven visitors – including the speaker- at the meeting.

 

MEMBERSHIP:

Sir Ralph Legg reported that Larry Bertuccelli is performing community service on Thursdays for the next six months and will not be able to attend SIR meetings. He asked that he be allowed to stay on active status during this time. It was moved, seconded and passed that this be approved (Feaster, Robinson).

Will Roe has moved out of the area and will be dropped from membership. As of this meeting there are 150 active members, three inactive and 15 men on the waiting list. Bill Bryant is next in line when a position becomes available.

 

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

LUNCHEON:

Sir Henry Beltran reported that we expect 125 for lunch on Thursday. The menu is turkey, trimmings and pumpkin pie.

 

PROGRAM:

 Little Sir Ed Nissen reported that our speaker at the next meeting will Todd Self, a local foot doctor. He will talk about his travels and exploits in sky diving. The December speaker will be Judy Watson from Cedar Ridge Apple Ranch

 

COMPUTER USER’S GROUP:

BULLETIN:  Sir Stu Heller reported that the deadline for inputs into the next bulletin is November 10, 2008.

 

PUBLICITY:   Sir Gil Wesson reported that announcements were posted in the Sonora paper and the Sierra Mt. Times.

 

TRAVEL:   Sir Earl Nelson was out of town, but will attend the Thursday meeting. He has requested a reserved table for the people who went on the Rhine tour earlier this year.

 

RV:  No report

 

MOVIE: Sir Ray Pfoutz will host the movie group for November. He requested approval for the event. Approved (Nissen, Bamford).

 

THEATER:  Sir Ralph Bushnell reported that Sir Joe Smith has done an excellent job in organizing the November Play. Sir Smith reported that 89 people have paid for the play and 60 people for dinner after the play at Birdies.

Sir Ray Pfoutz is hosting the December play.

 

HIKING:  Sir Jerry Jensen was absent, but asked Sir George Leontovich to announce the next hike. It will be to the Crabtree cross-country trail near Dodge Ridge on November 12, weather permitting. A weather alternate date is being considered. Approved (Nissen, Desrosiers).

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Sir Don Denhard announced that the November meeting will be a social mixer. Playing cards to direct people to appropriate tables will be handed out when people check in.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Sir Ralph Bushnell asked for more information on the “$50” insurance for helicopter emergency Med-Evac coverage. Sir Denhard said he would research the matter.

 

Sir Jim McCracken reminded us that effective with the January meeting the price of lunch will go up to $13.00. (Dean will charge us $10 per meal and the difference will be used to cover the $260 set up fee paid to the Elks Lodge.) Approved: (Nissen, Beltran)

 

Sir Henry Beltran reported that all is ready for the Christmas party to be held on December 16th at the Elk’s Lodge. He will be selling thickets at Thursday’s meeting for $26. Menu choices are steak or chicken. Appetizers and wine will also be provided. Entertainment will be “Jazz at Eight”. $500 is allocated for their fee.

 

Because of schedule conflicts, the December Sir meeting will NOT be held on Thursday but on Wednesday, December 3rd. Also, the January meeting will be held on THE SECOND THURSDAY, January 8th due to the holiday calendar. Both changes will be highlighted in the next bulletins.

 

Sir Bill Bamford moved that annual dues reminders be included in the next bulleting. Approved: (Bamford, Pfoutz)

 

Meeting was adjourned at 9:20 AM.

The next BEC meeting will be held on Monday, December 1st.
