Meeting Date: November 2, 2009 Place: Papa's New Roost
Big Sir Ed Nissen opened the meeting at 8:03 AM. Secretary Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). The minutes of the September 28 Branch Executive Committee meeting were approved as electronically transmitted to each Officer and Director. (Nissen/Nelson).
TREASURER'S REPORT:
Treasurer Rich Brandau reported a beginning balance of $4328.03 and an ending balance of $5057.96 for the month of October. The main expenses for the month were printing, supplies and postage - $167; State Quarterly Assessment - $147; Christmas Party Expense - $226; and, Answering Service - $8. The Treasurer‟s Report was approved (Bamford/Nelson).
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance Chairman Herb Spierling reported that 11 Sirs have called that they would not be attending the luncheon meeting. Sir Bill Bamford reported that 10 guests would be attending. Sir Spierling reported that Sir Don Elder has not been able to attend the past three luncheons as he is caring for his wife. He is seeking someone to help him so that he can attend soon.
MEMBERSHIP:
Membership Chairman Ralph Legg reported that Sir Elmer Miller has transferred to the new Sierra Branch 77; and that Al Wilhelm has resigned and moved from the area. Jim Floyd, sponsored by Sir Bob Wright and Dave Palmer, sponsored by Sir Dick Feaster, will be inducted at Thursday‟s Luncheon Meeting. The membership stands at 150 active and 5 inactive. Sir Legg requested approval to accept the application of Steve Hayes, sponsored by Sir Ralph Legg. Approved (Brandau/Vaca).
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
LUNCHEON: Sir Henry Beltran reported that all is set for Thursday‟s luncheon. Sir Beltran will request a setup for 125 plus the head table.
PROGRAM: Thursday‟s program will be a presentation about Antarctic Wildlife by Dr. Roger Anderson of Modesto Junior College. December‟s program will be a talk by John Rogers, who piloted Air Force One.
COMPUTER USERS GROUP: The CUG meeting on October 22, 2009, hosted by Sir Dick Chimenti was very well attended. An extensive discussion of Windows 7, Facebook, Twitter and other interesting items was held.

BULLETIN: Sir Stu Heller requested that all items for the November bulletin be submitted to Sir Stu Heller by Monday, November 9. Transmitting the Bulletin electronically, as a PDF file, was successfully tested as a means to save printing and postage costs. Extensive discussion ensued. Some Sirs do not use email; others just want a paper copy and are willing to pay for it. More discussion with the general membership is needed.
PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that both the Sierra Mountain Times and the Sonora Union Democrat published a notice of Thursday‟s Luncheon Meeting.
TRAVEL: Little Sir Earl Nelson, Travel Chairman, reported that 10 Sirs/guests have confirmed interest for the September 2010 trip to Eastern Canada and that space is still available.

THEATER: Sir Ralph Bushnell reported that the next play, Little Women: The Musical, at the East Sonora SRT, has 72 Sirs/guests signed up, and 50 for the dinner at the East Sonora Conference Center following the play. Sir Joe Gil is the host. The December play, hosted by Sir Bushnell, will be Christmas My Way: A Sinatra Holiday Bash at the Fallon House in Columbia with dinner following at the East Sonora Conference Center.
To date, 56 Sirs/guests have signed up for the play and 36 for the dinner. Sir Rich Brandau, Theater Chairman for 2010, reported that he has 7 plays scheduled for 2010 and the discounted rate is $16 per person. SRT requires that the tickets be paid for three weeks before the day of the play, after which the price is $30 per person.
HIKING GROUP: Sir Jerry Jensen requested approval for a hike at Bell Meadows on November 9, car pooling from the Twain Harte Market Parking lot at 8:30 AM. If the
weather is unfavorable an alternate date will be selected. Approved (Bamford/Desrosiers).
MOVIE: Sir Ray Pfoutz requested approval for a “Movie and Dinner”, on November 3 to see Amelia, at the East Sonora Regal Entertainment Theater and dinner at Jeb's Waffles „N Ribs; and a second “Movie and Dinner” on a date to be determined. Approved (Desrosiers/Bamford).
FELLOWSHIP: Sir Larry Bertuccelli requested a Branch Policy decision regarding the quality of the cards to be sent and to whom will they be sent. Discussion ensued. Big Sir Ed Nissen stated that the cards the Branch Fellowship Chairman selects shall be at the Chairman‟s discretion. It was the consensus of the BEC that for the illness/death of the Sir, a card shall be sent to his spouse/significant other. For the illness/death of the spouse/significant other, a card shall be sent to the Sir. Passed (Nelson/Vaca).
OLD BUSINESS:
Christmas Party: Invitations were sent out in October. A notice will be placed in the November bulletin. Officers and Directors will be greeters at the door. Sir Bill Bamford will set up the area for the band. Sirs Dick Feaster and Ray Pfoutz will photograph Sirs and spouses/guests on arrival and during social hour. Prints will be made for those wishing to have them. A Christmas Party organizational meeting will be held Thursday, after the luncheon. Because of the holiday season and other reservations at the Elk‟s Lodge, the December general meeting will be on the first WEDNESDAY (December 2nd).

The next Executive Committee Meeting will be 8:00 AM, Monday, November 30, 2009, at Papa‟s New Roost with breakfast starting at 7:00 AM. The monthly luncheons are held on the first Thursday of each month at the Sonora Elks‟ Lodge with the exception of December as noted above.
