MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

 

 

            Meeting Date: October 4, 2010                                              Place: Pine Tree Restaurant 

 

Little Sir Henry Beltran opened the meeting at 8:00 AM and called for self introductions. Little Sir Beltran announced that Big Sir Earl Nelson had been taken to the hospital on Sunday for tests and observation, and that long time member, Sir Ken Lew, had passed away. Secretary Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). Little Sir Beltran requested approval of the Minutes as they were written and electronically transmitted to the Branch Officers and Directors.  Approved (Nissen/Jensen).   

 

TREASURER'S REPORT:

Treasurer Dennis Honeychurch reported a beginning balance of $5477.83 and an ending balance of $5598.72 for the month of September. The main expenses for the month were: Printing & Supplies - $61.99; Postage – $25.65; Visitor’s Expense - $10.00; and, Answering Service - $7.95. The Treasurer’s Report was approved (Nissen/Ray).  

 

ATTENDANCE:

Attendance Chairman Bill Anning reported that 26 Sirs had called that they would not be attending the luncheon. There was no report on visitors expected.

 

MEMBERSHIP:

Membership Chairman Larry Bertuccelli reported that with the passing of Sir Ken Lew, the membership now stands at 149 active and 4 inactive. Sir Bertuccelli stated that the next new member will be inducted in November because his sponsor will not be able to attend the October Luncheon Meeting. Sir Bertuccelli requested approval for a transfer application request from Sir Earl Randall of Sonora Branch 136. Approved, (Nissen/Honeychurch).

 

 

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

LUNCHEON: Sir Jim McCracken reported that all is set for Thursday’s luncheon with Swiss steak for the main course.  

 

PROGRAM: Little Sir Henry Beltran reported that the speaker for Thursday’s Luncheon will be Sergeant Major (Ret) Jon R. Cavaiani, recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor, for his actions in Vietnam on the 4th and 5th of June, 1971.

 

COMPUTER USERS GROUP:  Sir Dick Chimenti requested approval for a meeting on October 28, 2010 at the China House Café, in Twain Harte, starting at 5:30 PM. Approved (Honeychurch/Jensen).

 

WEB PAGE: Sir Dick Chimenti reported that the Web Page is up to date.

 

GOLF: Sir Gil Wesson reported that the Club will play at Castle Oaks in Ione next week. This will be the last play of the season.

 

BULLETIN: Sir Stu Heller requested that all items for the November bulletin be submitted to him by Sunday, October 10th.

 

PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that the Union Democrat published a notice of the October Luncheon meeting and its speaker.

 

TRAVEL: The Canada trip to the Halifax area was great, cold and windy at times, but everyone had a good time, and the Lobster was delectable.

 

FISHING: Sir Herb Spierling reported that the September fishing trip had to be cancelled due to lack of interest. Sir Spierling, hoping that there will be interested people, requested approval for a fishing trip in October to a place and at a time to be determined, depending on the will of the fish. Approved (Nissen/Honeychurch).    

 

RV: Sir Jim Nolan reported that the October trip was cancelled due to lack of interest, but that the November trip to Paso Robles, 11/8 to 11/12 was on.

 

THEATER: Forty Sirs and Spouses/Guests had a great time attending Red, White, and Tuna on September 29 at the Fallon House Theater, with a fine dinner at the East Sonora Conference Center following the performance.   The last play of the season will be the Andrews Sisters, Christmas of Swing on November 10th at the Fallon House, followed by dinner at the Conference Center.

 

PINOCHLE: Sir Jerry Morrow reported that 9 Sirs played Pinochle at the Moose Lodge on September 7th, and invited all interested Sirs to play the first Monday of each month at the Sonora Moose Lodge in Soulsbyville. A light lunch will be available.  

 

HIKING GROUP: Sir Jerry Jensen requested approval for a hike on October 20, 2010, through the South Grove of Calaveras Big Trees State Park, carpooling from the Junction Shopping Center parking lot at 8:00 AM.  (Nissen/Beltran).

 

MOVIE: Sir Ray Pfoutz requested approval for a Movie and Dinner on October 5th at the Regal Cinemas Stadium 10 Theater. The Movie will be Wall Street.  Approved (Honeychurch/Nissen).

 

FELLOWSHIP: Sir Bill Bamford reported that a condolence card was sent to Sir Ken Lew’s spouse, and to Sir Bob Ottesen, whose spouse passed away. Sir Bamford will send a “Get Well” card to Big Sir Earl Nelson.

 

MOUNTAIN BIKING: The Mountain Biking Group requested approval for a ride on October 13, 2010 over the Clavey River Loop Trail. Approved (Nissen/Jensen).                          

OLD BUSINESS:

Little Big Sir Henry Beltran requested those Sirs who are on the Christmas Dinner Party planning committee to stay a few minutes after Thursday’s Luncheon meeting to review the party planning status with him.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

None

 

All business having been concluded, the meeting was adjourned at 9:16 AM.

 

 

The next Executive Committee Meeting will be 8:00 AM, Monday, November 1, 2010, at The Pine Tree Restaurant, next to the Best Western Motel, at 19601 Hess Avenue, with breakfast starting at 7:00 AM. The monthly luncheons are held on the first Thursday of each month at the Sonora Elks’ Lodge with the exception of August and December.
