Assistant Membership Chairman Bob Wright reported that Sir Will Roe has been moved to inactive status for medical reasons. This created one membership opening; Dick Jobe will be inducted on Thursday to fill this slot. The membership stands at 150 active, 4 inactive and 17 on hold.

Big Sir Denhard requested that Sir Heller include a membership reminder insert that the $20 voluntary dues for 2009 could now be paid. Big Sir Denhard also requested that Sir Beltran work with Sir Heller to include a flyer announcing the SIR Branch Christmas Party. The bulletin deadline is 10/06/08.

Approved (Brandau/Beltran).

MOVIE:  The BEC approved a movie for the month of October at the East Sonora Regal Entertainment Theater, at a date to be determined. Approved (Brandau/Beltran).

FELLOWSHIP:  Nothing to report.

OLD BUSINESS:

Big Sir Don Denhard, at the September luncheon meeting, asked for an advisory vote of the membership as to whether to stay at the Elks Lodge or return to the Twain Harte Golf Clubhouse for the branch luncheons. The general membership overwhelmingly voted to stay at the Elks Lodge for 2009. Big Sir Denhard thanked the Luncheon Committee for its good work and dismissed the committee.

Christmas Party: Sir Henry Beltran reported that planning for the party, to be at the Sonora Elks Lodge on the evening of December 16, 2008, is well under way. Sir Beltran reviewed the budget with the BEC and set the ticket price at $26 per person, a dollar more than last year. Big Sir Denhard will print the tickets and the name badges. The badges will be in plastic holders because it has been difficult for the “stick-on” badges to stay stuck. Sir Roy Sweeney will make up the gift baskets; $160 has been budgeted for the baskets. Big Sir Denhard is still trying to make contact with Summerville High School’s singing group, Jazz at 8, to perform for us that night. Sir Denhard requested an allocation of $500 for the entertainment. Approved (Pfoutz/Bamford).

NEW BUSINESS:

Big Sir Don Denhard reported that October’s luncheon will not be a “mixer” at which each Sir’s table assignment will be the luck of the draw. In the absence of the Little Sir, the Big Sir does not have time to get the logistics of the mixer together and run the luncheon meeting as well.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 AM.

The next Executive Committee Meeting will be 8:00 AM, Monday, November 3, 2008 at Papa’s New Roost with breakfast starting at 7:00 AM.

Dan Mohn, Secretary
