MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Big Sir Ed Nissen opened the meeting at 7:58 AM.  Asst. Secretary Dick Feaster reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report).  The minutes of the August 3, 2009 BEC meeting were approved as electronically sent to all Officers and Directors. (Derosier/Bamford). 

 

TREASURER'S REPORT:

Treasurer Rich Brandau reported a beginning balance of $4927 and an ending balance of $4714 for the month of May. The main expenses for the month were printing, supplies and postage - $213; and, Answering Service - $8. The Treasurer’s Report was approved. (Honeychurh/Bamford).

 

ATTENDANCE:

Attendance Chairman Herb Spierling reported that 21 Sirs have called that they would not be attending the luncheon meeting. Sir Bill Bamford reported that about12 guests would be attending.

Sir Jim McCracken reported that there were a large number of Sirs gone on an RV trip.

 

 

MEMBERSHIP:

Membership Chairman Ralph Legg reported that Sir Larry Carrington had submitted his letter of resignation for personal reasons. Sir Legg noted that Cliff Simpson is next on the list for induction. Simpson’s sponsor is Sir Fritz Maurer. The membership stands at 150 active and 5 inactive.

 

 

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

LUNCHEON: Sir Henry Beltran reported that all is set for Thursday’s luncheon. Sir Beltran will request a setup for 125 plus the head table.

 

PROGRAM: Thursday’s program will be a presentation on Interfaith by Kathy Peacock.  The October program will be presented by Mike Albrecht from TuCARE.

 

TRAVEL:  Little Sir Earl Nelson, Travel Chairman, asked Big Sir Ed Nissen, via email, to report that 26 people have signed up for a trip to Canada planned for September 2010. Space is still available if others are interested in going.

 

COMPUTER USERS GROUP: Sir Dick Chimenti notified Big Sir Ed Nissen, via email, that he would hold a CUG meeting on September 10th at the China House. The meeting would start at 5:30 with dinner. Subject was not announced. Meeting approved (Jensen/Legg).

GOLF: No Report

 

BULLETIN: Sir Stu Heller requested that all bulletin items be submitted to him by this Thursday, September 3rd as he is leaving town soon afterward and would like to get it in the mail early.

 

PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that both the Sierra Mountain Times and the Sonora Union Democrat published a notice of Thursday’s Luncheon Meeting.

 

RV: Sir Jim McCracken reported that the RV group would be out until Labor Day.

 

THEATER: Sir Ralph Bushnell thanked all the hosts who have helped make “Theater and Dinner” a popular and successful event for the Branch. He noted that there is a decrease in the number of people opting to go to dinner with the group afterwards and said this might open up other smaller restaurants for dinner options. Sir Bushnell noted that SRT tickets for the December 2010 play will be $30 with no discounts and he has decided not to schedule a play for us then.

 

HIKING GROUP: Sir Jerry Jensen requested approval for a hike around Pine Crest Lake on Tuesday, September 22nd. The plan is to meet at the Twain Harte Market parking lot at 8:30 AM, and car pool up to the lake for the hike. Wives would be invited to join the hike and/or also to be there later for lunch at the amphitheater. Approved (Brandau/Legg).

 

MOVIE: Sir Ray Pfoutz requested approval for a “Movie and Dinner” on a date to be determined at the East Sonora Regal Entertainment Theater. Approved (Robinson/Desrosiers)

 

FELLOWSHIP: Sir Larry Bertuccelli emailed Big Sir Nissen to announce that there were no reports of illness.

 

OLD BUSINESS: Big Sir Ed Nissen reported that the Christmas party planning is going forward with a committee headed by Sir Henry Beltran. The date is December 15th and he will be asking board members to assist at the event as greeters, escorts and with picture taking.

Because of the holiday season and other reservations at the Elk’s Lodge, the December general meeting will be on the first WEDNESDAY (December 2nd).

 

 

 

 

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Big Sir Nissen talked about his attendance at the State General SIR meeting. There was a lot of discussion about other chapters loosing and recruiting members. Thankfully, this is not a problem for our Branch. He also said that many other chapters have lots of small activities like poker, short walks on level ground, etc.

He also reported that the State Board has not acted on the formation of a new SIR branch in Sonora (even thought this has been reported in the Union Democrat).

 

The meeting was adjourned at 8:5 AM.

 

The next Executive Committee Meeting will be 8:00 AM, Monday, September 28, at Papa’s New Roost with breakfast starting at 7:00 AM. The monthly luncheons are held on the first Thursday of each month at the Sonora Elks’ Lodge with the exception of December as noted above.
