SONS IN RETIREMENT
MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Meeting Date: August 30, 2010 Place: Pine Tree Restaurant
Big Sir Earl Nelson opened the meeting at 8:00 AM and called for self introductions. Secretary Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). Sir Dennis Honeychurch requested that the Minutes of the August 2, 2010 BEC meeting be corrected in the MEMBERSHIP section to reflect the correct spelling of inductee Dennis Rizzi’s last name. The minutes were approved as corrected. (Honeychurch/Beltran).
TREASURER'S REPORT:
Treasurer Dennis Honeychurch reported a beginning balance of $5567.85 and an ending balance of $5477.83 for the month of August. The main expenses for the month were: Printing & Supplies - $61.99; Postage – $88.00; and, Answering Service - $7.95. The Treasurer’s Report was approved (Escallier/Jensen).
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance Chairman Bill Anning reported that 13 Sirs had called that they would not be attending the luncheon. Sir Harvey Uhl reported that 6 visitors would be attending.
MEMBERSHIP:
Membership Chairman Larry Bertuccelli reported that the following gentlemen will be inducted at the September Luncheon Meeting: Ron Gorham; Charlie Cameron; Bob Johnson; and, Dennis Rizzi. With this action the membership will be 150 active and 4 inactive. Sir Bertuccelli has updated the NEW MEMBERSHIP pamphlet and requested approval to have 100 copies printed at a cost of $89.00. Approved (Nissen/Jensen).
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
LUNCHEON: Sir Jim McCracken reported that all is set for Thursday’s luncheon with Chicken Fried Steak for the main course.
PROGRAM: Little Sir Henry Beltran reported that Dr. Eric Raymond Freedman, specializing in Pediatric and Adult Urology, and Urological Surgery will speak on when and why we should consult with a Urologist.
COMPUTER USERS GROUP: No Report.
WEB PAGE: No Report.
GOLF: Sir Gil Wesson reported that the Club will play at Dryden Park in Modesto next week.
BULLETIN: Sir Stu Heller requested that all items for the September bulletin be submitted to him by Sunday, September 5th.
PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that the Union Democrat published a notice of the Luncheon on two occasions.
TRAVEL: Big Sir Earl Nelson reported that he will have a travel information table set up at the luncheon meeting to remind all Sirs of pending travel opportunities. Trips are being planned by Mother Lode Travels (Sierra, Sonora and Twain Harte Branches) to Canada leaving September 16th, Horse Racing at Golden Gate Fields November 12th, Arizona for New Year’s 2011, Tuscany, Italy in May, 2011, and tentatively, China late in 2011 or 2012.
FISHING: Sir Herb Spierling reported that the August fishing trip had to be cancelled due to lack of interest. He will reschedule the August trip for September. The tri-branch Fishing Club (Twain Harte, Sonora and Sierra) is planning a major outing to the Klamath River in November to fish for Salmon and Steelhead.
RV: Sir Jim Nolan reported that over 190 Sirs, spouses and guests attended the BBQ Picnic last month. The picnic was great fun and the RV Club did a great job putting it together. Sir Nolan also reported that the October RV trip has been cancelled due to lack of interest.
THEATER: Sir Rich Brandau reported that everyone had a great time attending Big River on August 25th at the Fallon House Theater in Columbia, and the dinner after the play at the East Sonora Conference Center. Forty Sirs and spouses/guests will be attending Red, White, and Tuna on September 29 at the Fallon House Theater.
PINOCHLE: Sir Roland Patton requested approval to move the Pinochle game date from the 1st Monday in September to the 2nd Monday because the 1st Monday is Labor Day. Approved (Robinson/Nissen).
HIKING GROUP: Sir Jerry Jensen requested approval for a hike on September 16, 2010 starting at Lake Eleanor, then to Miguel Meadow and return. Approved (Nissen/Escallier).
MOVIE: Sir Ray Pfoutz requested approval for a Movie and Dinner in September at the Regal Cinemas Stadium 10 Theater at a date and time to be determined. Approved (Honeychurch/Beltran).
FELLOWSHIP: Sir Bill Bamford reported that a card was sent to Sir Ken Lew, who is recovering from surgery, and to Sir Bill Steel, whose wife, Marilyn, is hospitalized.
MOUNTAIN BIKING: Sir Ralph Legg requested approval for a bike ride September 8, 2010 on the Fahey Meadow Loop Trail. Approved (Porter/Beltran).
OLD BUSINESS:
Big Sir Earl Nelson requested those Sirs who are on the Christmas Dinner Party planning committee to stay a few minutes after this BEC meeting to review the party planning status with him.
Treasurer Dennis Honeychurch announced that Sir Bill Anning has volunteered to chair the audit committee and Sir Rich Brandau has volunteered to be a member of the committee.
NEW BUSINESS:
Big Sir Earl Nelson related his conversation with State SIR President Buck Kendrick regarding the membership cap that Twain Harte Branch 172 has imposed in order to be able to meet in at the Twain Harte Golf Club again when it resumes catering to groups of this size.
All business having been concluded, the meeting was adjourned at 9:06 AM.
The next Executive Committee Meeting will be 8:00 AM, Monday, October 4, 2010, at The Pine Tree Restaurant, next to the Best Western Motel, at 19601 Hess Avenue, with breakfast starting at 7:00 AM. The monthly luncheons are held on the first Thursday of each month at the Sonora Elks’ Lodge with the exception of August and December.
