SONS IN RETIREMENT
MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Meeting Date: August 2, 2010 Place: Pine Tree Restaurant
Big Sir Earl Nelson opened the meeting at 8:03 AM and called for self introductions. Secretary Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). The minutes of the June 28, 2010 Branch Executive Committee Meeting were approved as electronically transmitted to each officer and director. (Nissen/Escallier).
TREASURER'S REPORT:
Sir Dennis Honeychurch reported a beginning balance of $5776.34 and an ending balance of $5567.85 for the month of July. The main expenses for the month were: Printing & Supplies - $87.97; State Board Pro Rata Assessment - $147; Visitors Expenses - $10.00; Answering Service - $7.95; and, Other - $74.31. The Treasurer’s Report was approved (Nissen/Porter).

MEMBERSHIP:
Membership Chairman Larry Bertuccelli reported that Sir Don Watkins, who has been inactive for several years, will not be returning to active status and requested to be removed from the Branch inactive file. Sir Watkins remains interested in the Branch activities. Chairman Bertuccelli reminded Sir Watkins that he could keep up on the activities by checking into the Branch Web site. Chairman Bertuccelli reported that the following Sirs had tendered their resignations during July because they have either left the area or are no longer physically able to attend meetings: Roy Sweeney; Gil Voecks; and Gary Bogolea. The BEC accepted these resignations. With this action, the membership stands at 146 active and 4 inactive. The following gentlemen will be inducted at the September Luncheon Meeting: Ron Gorham; Charlie Cameron; Bob Johnson; and, Dennis Riggi.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
LUNCHEON: There will be no luncheon this month. Instead, the Branch will have a Ladies Day BBQ Picnic at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park, put on by the RV Club.
PROGRAM: There will be no program at the picnic.
COMPUTER USERS GROUP: Sir Dick Chimenti reported that he had no meetings planned at this time.
WEB PAGE: Sir Dick Chimenti reported that the Web Site is updated as he receives the information.
GOLF: Sir Gil Wesson reported that the Club will play at Mace Meadows next week.
BULLETIN: Sir Stu Heller requested that all items for the August bulletin be submitted to him by Monday, August 9th.
PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that there was no publicity for the Picnic.
TRAVEL: Big Sir Earl Nelson reported that he will set up a travel information table at the luncheon meetings to remind all Sirs of pending travel opportunities. Trips are being planned by Mother Lode Travels (Sierra, Sonora and Twain Harte Branches) to Canada in September, Golden Gate Fields in November, Arizona for New Year’s, Tuscany in May, 2011, and tentatively, China late in 2011 or 2012.
RV: Sir Bob Becker reported that everything is set for the Ladies Day BBQ Picnic at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park for Thursday. The French Camp Trip has been cancelled. Trips to Paso Robles and to St George, Utah are on schedule. Sir Becker requested approval for a Planning Meeting and Pot Luck Dinner in October. Approved (Nissen/Porter).
THEATER: Sir Rich Brandau reported that 49 Sirs/Guests have signed up for Big River on August 25th at the Fallon House Theater in Columbia, and 45 will be attending the dinner after the play at the East Sonora Conference Center.
HIKING GROUP: Sir Jerry Jensen reported that the hiking group had a good workout on the trail starting at the Crabtree Trail Head and going to Camp Lake and return. Sir Jensen requested approval for a hike on August 24th starting at the Wheats Meadow Trail Head to Burgson Lake and return. Approved (Escallier/Beltran).
MOVIE: Sir Ray Pfoutz requested approval for a Movie and Dinner in August at the Regal Cinemas Stadium 10 Theater at a date and time to be determined. Approved (Robinson/Beltran).
FELLOWSHIP: Sir Bill Bamford reported that no cards needed to be sent.
FISHING: Sir Herb Spierling requested approval for a fishing trip in August on a date and at a place to be determined by the fish activity. Approved (Nissen/Escallier).
PINOCHLE: Sir Jerry Morrow reported that interest in playing Pinochle has been good. Play starts at 12 noon on the first Monday of each month at the Sonora Moose Lodge at Soulsbyville.
Mountain Biking: Sir Ralph Legg reported that 12 Sirs joined the group last month, and requested approval for a ride on August 11, 2010, along the railroad grade from Frasier Flat to Strawberry and return. Approved (Nissen/Porter).
OLD BUSINESS:
None.
NEW BUSINESS:
Big Sir Earl Nelson reported that with the resignation of Sir Larry Bogolea, a new audit chairman will be needed and is making a request for a volunteer. Treasurer Dennis Honeychurch noted that while Sir Bogolea was a CPA, the audit committee chairman is not required to be a CPA.
All business having been concluded, the meeting was adjourned at 9:05 AM.
The next Executive Committee Meeting will be 8:00 AM, Monday, August 30, 2010, at The Pine Tree Restaurant, next to the Best Western Motel, at 19601 Hess Avenue, with breakfast starting at 7:00 AM. The monthly luncheons are held on the first Thursday of each month at the Sonora Elks’ Lodge with the exception of August and December.
