TWAIN HARTE BRANCH NO. 172

MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Meeting Date: July 31, 2006 Place: Papa's New Roost

Little Sir Roy Sweeney opened the meeting at 8:00 AM and reported that Big Sir Dick Feaster was still in Hawaii because of a medical emergency with his wife, Jan, who has been hospitalized. Secretary Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). The minutes of the July 3, 2006 Branch Executive Committee (BEC) were approved as presented to each officer and director by email. (Denhard/Smith).

TREASURER'S REPORT: Treasurer Earl Nelson reported a beginning cash balance of $2671.55 and an ending cash balance of $2853.34 for the month of July. The major expenses for the month were $76.02 for printing and supplies, $97.40 for postage, and 171.35 State Board Pro Rata Assessment. Treasurer Nelson presented a cash flow recap from 1/1/06 through 7/31/06 showing that the year to date expenses are only $361.27 over budget even with some major unbudgeted expenditures. The Treasurer’s Report was approved (Holton/Johnson).

ATTENDANCE: Attendance Chairman Herb Spierling reported that Sir Chuck Holcomb had called him to confirm that he was still a Sir in good standing and promised to improve his attendance record. The membership status of Sir Ray Harm was also discussed. Sir Harm had been contacted concerning his attendance and he refuses to respond. It was the consensus of the BEC that Sir Piercey will notify Sir Harm that his membership has been terminated.

MEMBERSHIP: Membership Chairman Lee Piercey moved for approval of the following new members pending memberships becoming available: Ron Zils, Donald Escallier, Rich Schwarzmann, and Edward Bolitho. Approved (Piercey/Smith). The membership stands at 150 active, 3 inactive and 7 on hold.

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

LUNCHEON: Little Sir Sweeney reported that a number of Sirs had complained about the quality and quantity of the food at the last luncheon. Some did not get desert, and a few got very little of the main course, and some said that the main course was improperly prepared. Discussion ensued. There were 123 meals served, about 10 more than the usual number. Since there is no suitable alternative to the Golf Club for our luncheon meeting, Little Sir Sweeney and the Luncheon Chairman will work with the Golf Club Chef to improve the food quality and will try to give the Golf Club a closer estimate of attendance.

PROGRAM: The next luncheon is the Annual BBQ at Railtown 1897 State Historical Park, hosted by the Branch RV Group.

COMPUTER USERS GROUP: Sir Rich Froisness reported that there was a good turnout at the July meeting. There will be no meeting in August.

TRAVEL: There still appears that some confusion exists regarding the Los Vegas trip being promoted by Sir Don Parr. Sir Mike Eachus will talk with Sir Parr to insure that everyone understands that this is not a SIR sanctioned event.

Sir Eachus reported that four Sirs and spouses have signed up for the 2008 Hawaii cruise.

RV: Sir Harvey Uhl reported that everything is set for the BBQ on Thursday. One hundred and ninety tickets have been sold.
