MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Meeting Date: July 2, 2007 Place: Papa’s New Roost

Big Sir Roy Sweeney opened the meeting at 7:55 AM. Secretary Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). Secretary Mohn reported that Thursday’s program speaker’s name was misspelled, in the June 4, 2007 minutes as presented to each officer and director by electronic mail. The correct spelling is O’Connell. The minutes of the June 4, 2007 BEC meeting were approved as corrected. (Denhard/Beltran).

TREASURER’S REPORT:

Assistant Treasurer Richard Robinson Brandau reported a beginning balance of $3455.19 and an ending balance of $3451.30 for the month of June. The major expenditures were: Printing and Supplies - $69.07; State Board Pro Rata Assessment - $160.00; and, Guest Expenses - $12.00. Assistant Treasurer RobinsonBrandau further reported that income and expenditures were tracking the budgeted amounts, with income slightly ahead of the anticipated income for the first six months and the expenses slightly less than budgeted. The report was approved (Beltran/Smith).

ATTENDANCE:

Attendance Chairman Herb Spierling reported that twenty Sirs have called to date that they would not be attending Thursday’s luncheon. Sir Bill Bamford reported that there would be four visitors including the speaker.

Sir Spierling reported that in response to letters sent, Sirs Jerry Van Buskirk and Doug Vierth each called Sir Spierling, each offering excuses regarding their attendance record. Sir Spierling advised them to contact Attendance Chairman Lee Piercey to explore the possibility of going on the Inactive Member list if health was preventing them from attending.

MEMBERSHIP:

Assistant Membership Chairman Ralph Legg reported that there had been no change in membership nor had any new members been proposed during the past month. The membership remains at 150 active, 5 inactive and 20 waiting.

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

LUNCHEON: Sir Henry Beltran will inform the Elks Lodge to set up for 125 attendees at Thursday’s luncheon.

PROGRAM: The speaker for the Thursday’s luncheon will be Maggie O’Connell, who will talk about how reverse mortgages work. There will be no formal program at the August BBQ. The program speaker for September will be Beverley Hennessey, San Francisco Department of Water and Power, who will discuss the history and current status of the Hetch Hetchy water and power system.

COMPUTER USER’S GROUP: No Report

WEB PAGE: Sir Don Denhard reported that the web page is up to date.

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY GROUP: No Report

GOLF: Sir Gerry Emerson reported that the next meet would be in Madera on July 17 at the Riverbend Golf Club.

BULLETIN: Sir Nissen indicated Tthe deadline for August bulletin items is July 11.

PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that the meeting announcement was posted in the Sonora Union Democrat as well as the Sierra Mountain Times.

TRAVEL: Big Sir Sweeney reported that 23 Sirs/guests have signed up for the Rose Parade event. A minimum of 30 people isis needed to make the trip viable.

RV: The BBQ at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park is all set for August 2. Tickets will be on sale by the RV Group at Thursday’s luncheon.

THEATER: Sir Rich Brandau reported that 74 Sirs/guests attended the Fallon House Theater in Columbia to see the Best little Whorehouse in Texas. 57 stayed for dinner at the City Hotel following the play. Tickets for the next play will be offered to the first 51 who have signed up.

HIKING: Big Sir Roy Sweeney reported that Sir John Kinsfather will lead a hike to Cleo’s Bath at Pinecrest,, on a date to be determined in July, and requested approval. Approved (Smith/Beltran).

MOVIE: Sir Ralph Bushnell requested approval for "Lunch and Movie" on July 10 to see Live Free or Die Hard and, at a date to be determined, inon August 3 to see Bourne Ultimatum. Approved (Beltran/Brandau).

FELLOWSHIP: No Report

OLD BUSINESS

Christmas Dinner Party

Planning for the Christmas Dinner Party, on December 18th at the Elks Lodge, is on track. The BEC is still searching for the entertainment. Big Sir Roy Sweeney will contacted Julie Ludlum, formerly of SRT, to see if she and her husband would be interested willin singing for us. This is one possibility however; Tthe BEC remains open to other suggestions. $300 has been budgeted for the entertainment.

Training Day by Branch 136

Big Sir Sweeney announced that the training day being planned by Sonora Branch 136 has been cancelled.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Sir Ken Lew proposed that the BEC form a committee to meet with the caterer at the Twain Harte Golf Club to explore the possibility of returning there for our luncheon meetings. Big Sir Roy Sweeney reiterated all the unsolved problems that existed when the luncheon meetings were moved to the Sonora Elks Lodge, and reviewed the growth in attendance since moving to the Elks Lodge. The consensus of the BEC was to stay at the Elks Lodge for now.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 AM

The next BEC meeting will be at Papa’s New Roost on July 30, at 8:00 AM.
