MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

 

Meeting Date: June 30, 2008                                  Place: Papa’s New Roost

Big Sir Don Denhard opened the meeting at 8:01 AM and appointed Sir Stu Heller Acting Secretary. Acting Secretary Stu Heller reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). The minutes of the June 2, 2008 BEC meeting were approved as electronically submitted to each member of the BEC (Brandau/Beltran).

                                               

TREASURER’S REPORT:

Treasurer Rich Brandau reported a beginning balance of $4262.68 and an ending balance of $4192.35 for the month of June. The major expenditures were: printing and supplies- $69.61; guest expenses - $12.00; and other - $20.00, for a total of $101.61. The Treasurer’s Report was approved (Nissen/Beltran).

                       

ATTENDANCE:

Attendance Chairman Herb Spierling reported that 11 Sirs had called that they would not be attending Thursday’s luncheon. Assistant Attendance Chairman Bill Bamford reported that, to date, 5 guests will be attending. Sir Spierling reported that he had contacted Sir Leroy Bushart and Sir Hank Hobson regarding compliance with SIR attendance rules. Both expressed continued interest in remaining in SIR and will strive to improve their attendance records. Sir Spierling reported that Sir Ted Thorn and Sir John Snodgrass are now also in non compliance. He will contact these Sirs regarding their attendance records. Their attendance will continue to be monitored.

MEMBERSHIP:

Assistant Membership Chairman Bob Wright reported: 1) that Gene Momyer has submitted his resignation because he has moved from the area; and 2) that Sir Earl Nelson has proposed Craig Hempler for membership, and requested approval of these actions. Approved (Nissen/Spierling). Sir Wright reported that returning member Heinz Buseman will be inducted at Thursday’s Luncheon Meeting. The membership now stands at 150 active, 4 inactive and 17 on hold.  

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

LUNCHEON: Sir Henry Beltran reported that all arrangements were in place for our Thursday meeting. He is planning on 128 set ups plus the head table. 

PROGRAM: Little Sir Ed Nissen reported that Thursday’s program will be presented by Beverly Grabel, representing PG&E, who will discuss PG&E’s Energy Efficiency Programs. September’s program will be presented by Bob Leslie who will discuss the noninvasive proton procedure for his successful treatment of prostate cancer. There will be no program in August as August is the Ladies Day BBQ Picnic.

COMPUTER USER’S GROUP: Sir Dick Chimenti reported that there will be no meeting in July.

WEB PAGE: No Report.

 

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY GROUP: No Report.  

GOLF: Sir Gil Wesson reported that the Branch will not be using the Don Pedro Golf Course anymore. The Golf Group will be using alternative courses.

BULLETIN:  Sir Stu Heller reported that the deadline for our next bulletin is July 7. The deadline for August will be August 11.

PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that he had submitted our information to the Union Democrat and the Sierra Mountain Times.

TRAVEL: No Report.

RV: Sir Harvey Uhl reported that fewer Sirs are traveling this year. Only three Sirs signed up for the Buellton trip.

RV Club Ladies Day Picnic: Sir Harvey Uhl will be selling tickets at Thursday’s Luncheon meeting.

                 

THEATER: SIR Dennis Honeychurch reported that 83 Sirs/guests have signed on to attend the play Altar Boyz at the East Sonora Reparatory Theater on July 30.  63 Sirs/Guests will have dinner after the play at the East Sonora Conference Center.

MOVIE: Sir Ray Pfoutz requested approval for a movie and dinner for July, the movie will be Get Smart. The date of the movie, at the Sonora Regal Entertainment Theater, to be determined. Approved (Bamford/Spierling).

FELLOWSHIP:  One card was sent last month to a Sir with a medical problem.

HIKING: Sir Jerry Jensen reported that the turnout for last month’s hike was good, and requested approval for a hike to Frazer Flat on a July date to be determined. The hike will be led by Sir Paul Desrosiers. Approved (Nissen/Brandau).

OLD BUSINESS:

The Committee to consider the return to the Twain Harte Golf Clubhouse for Luncheon Meetings met with the Clubhouse management on June 12, 2008. The Club management would like Branch 172 to return, however, the contract to remodel the kitchen has not yet been signed, and they do not yet have a contract with their new caterer. Dino, our current caterer, cannot be used. The Committee determined that the space available in the dining room would work. The Committee will stay in touch with the Clubhouse management and report any new information to the BEC.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:48 AM.

The next BEC meeting will be at Papa’s New Roost on August 4, 2008 at 8:00 AM, preceded by breakfast starting at 7:00 AM.
