MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

 

 

            Meeting Date: June 28, 2010                                                 Place: Pine Tree Restaurant 

 

Big Sir Earl Nelson opened the meeting at 8:00 AM and called for self introductions.  Secretary Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). The minutes of the May 31, 2010 Branch Executive Committee Meeting were approved as electronically transmitted to each officer and director. Approved (Escallier/Beltran).

 

TREASURER'S REPORT:

Sir Dennis Honeychurch reported a beginning balance of $5798.01 and an ending balance of $5776.34 for the month of June. The main expenses for the month were Printing & Supplies - $61.99; Postage - $88.00; Visitors Expenses - $10.00; Answering Service - $7.95; and, Other - $156.04. The Treasurer’s Report was approved (Bushnell/Vaca).  

 

ATTENDANCE:

Attendance Chairman Bill Anning reported that 17 Sirs have called that they would not be attending the luncheon meeting. Assistant Attendance Chairman Harvey Uhl reported that 7 guests will be attending. Chairman Anning further reported that he had contacted Sir Charles Joseph regarding attending future luncheon meetings. Sir Joseph, a charter member of this branch, is now physically unable to attend meetings without aid and tendered his resignation. The BEC reluctantly accepted Sir Joseph’s resignation and requested that Big Sir Earl Nelson write Sir Joseph a letter of appreciation for his many years as an honorable and loyal Sir.

 

MEMBERSHIP:

Membership Chairman Larry Bertuccelli reported that he had no changes for June, however, with Sir Charles Joseph’s resignation, the membership will be 149 active and 5 inactive.

 

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

LUNCHEON: Sir Jim McCracken reported that all is set for Thursday’s luncheon.  

 

PROGRAM: Little Sir Henry Beltran, reported that Thursday’s Luncheon Program will be presented by David Polanco, Exalted Ruler of Lodge 1587 of the Benevolent and Protected Order of Elks. ER Polanco will discuss the origin of the Elks, its history and how the Elks are helping the local community.

 

COMPUTER USERS GROUP:  No Report

 

WEB PAGE: No Report.

 

GOLF: No Report

 

BULLETIN: Sir Stu Heller requested that all items for the August bulletin be submitted to him by Monday, July 5th.

 

PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that the Sonora Union Democrat has published a notice of the Thursday luncheon meeting.  

 

TRAVEL: Big Sir Earl Nelson reported that he will set up a travel information table at the luncheon meetings to remind all Sirs of pending travel opportunities.  

 

RV: Sirs Jim Nolan and Harvey Uhl reported that signups for the July outing have been slow and the trip may be cancelled for lack of interest. The RV Club will continue selling tickets for the August 5 annual Ladies Day Picnic at Railtown 1897, in Jamestown, at Thursday’s Luncheon. Ticket sales are going well.

 

THEATER: Sir Rich Brandau reported that 74 Sirs/Guests attended Stand by Your Man on June 16th at the Fallon House Theater in Columbia, and 63 attended the dinner after the play. The next play will be The Marvelous Wonderettes on July 14th at the East Sonora Theater, with dinner to follow at the East Sonora Convention Center.

 

HIKING GROUP: Sir Jerry Jensen reported that 16 Sirs and two spouses went on the raft trip on the Stanislaus River, putting in at Knight’s Ferry on June 10, 2010. Sir Jensen requested approval for a hike on July 20th, starting at the Crabtree Trail Head to Camp Lake. Approved (Bushnell/Escallier).

 

MOVIE: Sir Ray Pfoutz reported that the June movie, Night and Day, was attended by 7 Sirs and 6 spouses. Sir Pfoutz requested approval for a Movie and Dinner in July at the Regal Cinemas Stadium 10 Theater at a date and time to be determined. Approved (Bushnell/Honeychurch).

 

FELLOWSHIP: Sir Bill Bamford reported that two cards were sent.

 

FISHING: Sir Herb Spierling reported that fishing is great, catching is great as well if you are on the lake by sun up. Sir Spierling requested approval for a fishing trip to New Melones Lake on June 30, 2010, with a 5:30 AM start. Approved (Escallier/Bushnell).

 

PINOCHLE: No Report

 

Mountain Biking: Sir Roy Smith Requested approval for a ride on July 21,2010, along the Railroad grade starting at Middle Camp Road and going to Lyons Reservoir and return. Approved (Bushnell/Honeychurch).               

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

Christmas Party: Big Sir Earl Nelson suggested that the Branch engage the Pine Cone Singers of Groveland to provide entertainment at the Christmas Party. Little Sir Henry Beltran and his wife, Pauline, traveled to Groveland to attend a performance of the Pine Cone Singers and reported that he was impressed with their talent and recommended that they be engaged. Big Sir Nelson will follow up and offer them a contract.

 

Big Sir Nelson will convene a meeting of the Christmas Party Committee immediately after the Thursday Luncheon for a planning meeting.

 

 

 

All business having been concluded, the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 AM.

 

 

The next Executive Committee Meeting will be 8:00 AM, Monday, August 2, 2010, at The Pine Tree Restaurant, next to the Best Western, at 19601 Hess Avenue, with breakfast starting at 7:00 AM. The monthly luncheons are held on the first Thursday of each month at the Sonora Elks’ Lodge with the exception of August and December.
