MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

 

Meeting Date: June 4, 2007                                                      Place: Papa’s New Roost

 

Big Sir Roy Sweeney opened the meeting at 7:55 AM. Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). The minutes of the April 28, 2007 BEC meeting were approved as presented to each officer and director by electronic mail. (Feaster/Pfoutz). 

 

TREASURER’S REPORT:

 Treasurer Rich Brandau reported a beginning balance of $3508.86 and an ending balance of $3455.19 for the month of May. The major expenditures were: Printing and Supplies - $155.29; Postage – $82.56; and, Guest Expenses - $12.00. The report was approved (Smith/Spierling).  In light of the postal increases, a short discussion ensued regarding using electronic mail for the bulletin. The consensus was to continue using the Postal Service. 

 

ATTENDANCE:

Attendance Chairman Herb Spierling reported that twenty-eight Sirs have called to date that they would not be attending Thursday’s luncheon. Sir Bill Bamford reported that there would be nine visitors including the speaker.

Sir Spierling reported that Sir Bob Becker and Sir Harry Vacca were in violation of Rule 100.b, did not attend one-half of the regular luncheon meetings within the previous twelve consecutive month period, and that each had been sent warning letters informing them that they must improve their attendance to remain in good standing. Each has continued to miss a significant number of meetings. Discussion ensued. Sir Richard Feaster moved, seconded by Sir Joe Smith, that Sir Becker be sent a Notice of Pending Termination in accordance with Rule 107. Sir Joe Smith moved, seconded by Sir Ray Pfoutz, that Sir Vacca be sent a Notice of Pending Termination in accordance with Rule 107. Big Sir Roy Sweeney will direct Membership Chairman Lee Piercey to send the Notices.

Sir Spierling reported that the following Sirs were also in violation of Rule 100.b: George Lowder, Lynn Felber, Richard Robinson and Doug Vierth. Each of these Sirs will be sent letters reminding them of their attendance obligations

 

MEMBERSHIP:

Assistant Membership Chairman Ralph Legg moved that the membership applications of Duane Porter and Elzie Gerrels be accepted pending memberships becoming available.  Approved (Smith/Feaster). The membership now stands at 150 active, 5 inactive and 20 on hold. 

 

 

 

 

 

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

LUNCHEON: Sir Henry Beltran is out of town due to a family emergency. Sirs Spierling and Bamford will work closely with Big Sir Sweeney to inform the Elks Lodge how many luncheons to prepare.

 

PROGRAM: The speaker for the Thursday’s luncheon will be Kathi Toepel, Coordinator of the Mother Lode Ombudsman Program. For July, Maggie Oconnel (sp?) will talk about how reverse mortgages work.

 

COMPUTER USER’S GROUP: No Report

 

WEB PAGE: Sir Dick Feaster reported that the web page is up to date. 

 

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY GROUP: Sir Ray Pfoutz announced that he would look into the possibility of having a meeting in July.

 

GOLF: No report

 

BULLETIN: The deadline for bulletin items is June 11.

 

PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that the meeting announcement was posted in the Sonora Union Democrat as well as the Sierra Mountain Times.

 

TRAVEL: Sir Bill Steel announced that the New Year’s Day Rose Parade trip of 3 days and 2 nights for $698 including meals, lodging and travel has been set up.

 

RV:  No report.

 

THEATER: Sir Rich Brandau will host the Theater Group on June 20 at the Fallon House in Columbia to see the Best little Whorehouse in Texas. Seventy-four Sirs and spouses/guests will be in attendance. Dinner at the City Hotel will follow the play.

 

HIKING: Sir Jerry Jensen reported that the raft trip starting at Knight’s Ferry on the Stanislaus River was a big hit with great attendance and will be repeated next year. Sir Jensen requested approval for a hike to Camp Lake and on to Bear Lake starting at the Crab Tree Trail Head for June 14th, car pool from Rotary Park in Twain Harte. Approved

MOVIE: Sir Ralph Bushnell reported that “Lunch and a Movie” will be on June 5th.  . The movie will be Pirates of the Caribbean.

 

FELLOWSHIP: No Report

 

 

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 Christmas Dinner Party 

The Christmas Dinner Party is now scheduled for December 18th at the Elks Lodge. Sir Dick Feaster suggested that the Branch contact John Brown of the SRT for a possible program. Sir Ray Pfoutz, who knows Mr. Brown, will investigate what Mr. Brown’s entertainment includes and report back to the BEC. The regular luncheon will be on Thursday December 5th.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Sir Dick Feaster, Nominating Committee Chairman, reported that the committee has selected the following slate of nominees: Big Sir – Don Denhard; Little Sir – Ed Nissen; Secretary – Dan Mohn; Assistant Secretary – Dick Feaster; Treasurer – Rich Brandau; Assistant Treasurer – Richard Robinson; Directors – Henry Beltran, Ray Pfoutz, Herb Spierling, Bill Bamford, Dennis Honeychurch and Paul Desrosiers. Each Sir nominated has signified that he will serve if elected.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 AM

 

The next BEC meeting will be at Papa’s New Roost on July 2, at 8:00 AM.
