SONS IN RETIREMENT
MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Meeting Date: May 31, 2010 Place: Pine Tree Restaurant
Little Sir Henry Beltran opened the meeting at 8:00 AM and called for self introductions. Secretary Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). The minutes of the May 3, 2010 Branch Executive Committee Meeting were approved as corrected. Under ATTENDANCE, Sir Harvey Uhl rather than Sir Bill Bamford reported that 10 guests would be attending the luncheon meeting. (Nissen/Ray).
TREASURER'S REPORT:
Treasurer Dennis Honeychurch stated that he has changed item 204 on Form 28, Monthly Cash Report, from Guest Expense to Visitor Expense to better reflect what the entry best represents. Sir Honeychurch reported a beginning balance of $5971.49 and an ending balance of $5798.01 for the month of May. The main expenses for the month were printing, supplies - $89.74; Visitors Expenses - $10.00; and, Answering Service - $7.95. The Treasurer’s Report was approved (Nissen/Porter).
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance Chairman Bill Anning reported that 17 Sirs have called that they would not be attending the luncheon meeting. Assistant Attendance Chairman Harvey Uhl reported that 11 guests will be attending. Chairman Anning further reported that Sir Charles Joseph has missed three consecutive meetings. Sir Joseph has had exemplary attendance in the past. Sir Anning will contact Sir Joseph.
MEMBERSHIP:
Membership Chairman Larry Bertuccelli requested approval to accept the application of Paul Furiosi, sponsored by Sir Dennis Honeychurch. Approved (Nissen/Honeychurch).
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
LUNCHEON: Sir Jim McCracken reported that all is set for Thursday’s luncheon.
PROGRAM: Little Sir Henry Beltran, reported that Thursday’s Luncheon Program will be presented by Sharon Dominik, Marketing Director at Paradise Valley Estates, Fairfield, CA, who will discuss the various options to seniors for living in retirement communities that provide various levels of assistance and care
COMPUTER USERS GROUP: Eleven Sirs attended the “Basic Computer Users Lab” at the Tuolumne County Superintendent of Schools training facility. The program received very good comments.
WEB PAGE: No Report.
GOLF: The next play will be at Van Buskirk Park on June 08, 2010.
BULLETIN: Sir Stu Heller requested that all items for the May bulletin be submitted to him by Monday, June 7th.
PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that the Sonora Union Democrat has not published a notice of Thursday’s Luncheon Meeting even though he has notified them twice.
TRAVEL: No Report
RV: The next trip will leave on June 11 for Calistoga. Sixteen rigs have signed up, to date, and space is available for 2 or 3 more. The RV Club will begin selling tickets for the August 5 annual Ladies Day Picnic at Railtown 1897, in Jamestown, at Thursday’s Luncheon.
THEATER: Sir Rich Brandau reported that the next play will be Stand by Your Man on June 16th at the Fallon House Theater in Columbia.
HIKING GROUP: Sir Jerry Jensen requested approval for a raft trip on the Stanislaus River, putting in at Knight’s Ferry on June 10, 2010. Approved (Nissen/Porter).
MOVIE: Sir Gil Wesson requested approval for a “Movie and Dinner” in June at the Regal Cinemas Stadium 10 Theater on a date to be determined. Approved (Honeychurch/Bushnell).
FELLOWSHIP: Sir Bill Bamford reported that Sir Jim McCracken had surgery and Sir Dick Bezerra’s wife had passed away. Appropriate cards were sent.
FISHING: No Report.
PINOCHLE: Sir Jerry Morrow will be hosting Pinochle on June 7th at the Sonora Moose Lodge at 12 noon.
OLD BUSINESS:
Sir Ed Nissen, chairman of the nominating committee, reported that he will present the slate of officers and directors to the membership at its June 3rd Luncheon Meeting. Nominations will remain open until the July meeting at which time the committee’s recommendations will be put to the membership along with nominations from the floor, for a vote.
Mountain Biking: Sir Dennis Honeychurch reported that there is enough interest to form a mountain biking group, but no one has volunteered to chair the group and get it organized.
NEW BUSINESS:
Christmas Party: Little Sir Henry Beltran has again volunteered to chair the Christmas Party Committee. Sir Beltran reported that Sir John Kinsfather will procure the wine and the name tags. Sir Rich Brandau volunteered to furnish the Special Baskets for the ladies raffle. Sir Bill Bamford will help put together the table decorations but needs some additional Sirs to participate. The dinner committee needs a chairman, Sir Bamford will help. Sir Ed Nissen, with the help of Sir Bamford and Sir Brandau will address the letters to Sir Spouses regarding the dinner party. Sir Ray Pfoutz and Sir Dick Chimenti will be asked to serve as Christmas Party photographers.
All business having been concluded, the meeting was adjourned at 8:55 AM.
The next Executive Committee Meeting will be 8:00 AM, Monday, June 28th, 2010, at The Pine Tree Restaurant, next to the Best Western, at 19601 Hess Avenue, with breakfast starting at 7:00 AM. The monthly luncheons are held on the first Thursday of each month at the Sonora Elks’ Lodge with the exception of August and December.
