MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Meeting Date: April 4, 2011 Place: Pine Tree Restaurant
Big Sir Henry Beltran opened the meeting at 8:00 AM and welcomed all Officers, Directors, and Committee Chairmen then called for self introductions. Secretary Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (See Attached Attendance Record). Big Sir Beltran called for corrections to and/or approval of the February 28, 2011 Minutes as electronically transmitted to all Officers and Directors. Approved (Escallier/Robinson).
TREASURER'S REPORT:
Treasurer Dennis Honeychurch reported a beginning cash balance of $6387.05 and an ending balance of $6450.56 for the month of March. The main expenses for the month were: Printing & Supplies - $61.99; Postage & Delivery - $88.00; and, Guest Expense - $10.00. Treasurer Honeychurch stated that all members have made a $20 voluntary contribution to the year 2011 operating expenses. The Treasurer’s Report was approved. (Wright/Gil).
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance Chairman Bill Anning reported that 15 Sirs had called that they would not be attending the luncheon. Eleven of the 15 are on the RV Club trip to Three Rivers. Sir Anning reported that Sir Bruce Brown is in non-compliance with the SIR attendance rules. Sir Bob Wright reported that Sir Brown was having serious medical problems. Sir Wright will talk with Sir Brown regarding going to inactive status. Sir Jim Schneider reported that 15 guests would be attending including the speaker and his spouse.
MEMBERSHIP:
Membership Chairman Larry Bertuccelli requested approval to accept a membership application from Charles Luke, sponsored by Sir Don Denhard. Approved (Honeychurch/Morrow). The membership remains at 153 active members and 1 inactive.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
LUNCHEON: Sir Jim McCracken reported that all is set for Thursday’s luncheon serving Sirloin of Beef over noodles, carrots, green salad, and chocolate pudding.
PROGRAM: The speaker for Thursday’s Luncheon will be Lt. Commander USN(Ret) Ted Robinson, who’s PT boat and Crew rescued John F. Kennedy in the Pacific on the night of August 1, 1943.
COMPUTER USERS GROUP: The March 16th meeting received great reviews. Sir Bob Wright moved, seconded by Sir Dennis Honeychurch, that the BEC approve a meeting for April at the China House Café, in Twain Harte, on a date to be determined. Approved.
WEB PAGE: No Report.
GOLF: The 1st tournament of the season will be on April 12 at Spanos Park in Stockton.
BULLETIN: Sir Stu Heller requested that all items for publication be submitted by Monday, April 11.
PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that the luncheon meeting notice had been submitted to the Union Democrat but not yet published.
TRAVEL: Sir Don Escallier, for Sir Earl Nelson, reported that space is still available for the May 12 - 20, 2011 trip to Tuscany; and for the September 24 – October 2, 2011 cruise through the Hawaiian Islands. A trip to France is being planned for 2012. Big Sir Henry Beltran reported that: SIR Day at the Sacramento River Cats will be on May 9th at Raley Field in Sacramento; and All SIR Day at the San Francisco Giants will be on August 10th at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
FISHING: Sir Herb Spierling reported that the March outing was cancelled because of inclement weather and requested approval for a Fish Hookers April outing on a date and at a placed to be determined by the weather and the fish. Approved (Morrow/Granados). Sir Spierling also reported that there will be a Glory Hole Fishing Seminar April 16th & 17th at Glory Hole Sports, New Melones Lake, Angels Camp.
RV: No Report.
THEATER: Sir Rich Brandau reported that Sirs Dennis Honeychurch and Bill Bamford will be hosting the play, Boeing-Boeing, on June 8th at the Fallon House Theater in Columbia and will be taking signups at Thursday’s Luncheon Meeting.
PINOCHLE: Sir Roland Patton reported that the scheduled Pinochle game will be at the Elks Lodge on April 21st at noon, and that the Sierra and Sonora Branches as well as Elks Lodge members have been invited to join in the play. Five Sirs played last month. Sir Patton will try to round up more players for this month’s game.
HIKING GROUP: Sir Jerry Jensen requested approval to reschedule the March hike at the Glory Hole area on the north shore of New Melones Reservoir to April 19th. The Group will car pool from the Junction Shopping Center at 8:00 AM. Approved (Escallier/Morrow).
MOVIE: Sir Gil Wesson requested approval for two Movies and Dinners during April at the Regal Cinemas Stadium 10 Theater, Sonora. One movie will be for Sirs only, and the second will be for Sirs and Wives/Guests. The actual date will be determined when the theater schedule becomes available. Approved (Morrow/Hawke).
FELLOWSHIP: Sir Bill Bamford reported that he had sent three cards and made one phone call. He will send a card to the Neil Mayo family.
MOUNTAIN BIKING: Sir Ralph Legg requested approval for an excursion on April 27th to a place to be determined depending on the weather and trail conditions. Approved (Wright/Gil).
PROPANE GROUP: No Report
OLD BUSINESS:
A letter requesting a waiver of Rules 72 and 74 was sent to SIR Inc. through our Area Governor on February 11, 2011. Big Sir Henry Beltran reported that the State SIR Board of Directors has this item agendized for their April Board meeting. Big Sir Beltran further reported that our new Region 3 Director, Maynard ‘Rod’ Rodland will be attending Thursday’s Luncheon Meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
Big Sir Henry Beltran noted that the SIRinc Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for the State Officers for the 2012 year.
All business having been concluded the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 AM.
The next Branch Executive Committee Meeting will be 8:00 AM, Monday, May 2, 2011 at the Pine Tree Restaurant, next to the Best Western Motel, at 19601 Hess Avenue, Sonora, with breakfast starting at 7:00 AM. The monthly luncheons are held on the first Thursday of each month at the Sonora Elks’ Lodge, with the exception of August, which is the Ladies Day Picnic, sponsored by the RV Club, at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown.
