MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Meeting Date: March 2, 2009 Place: Papa's New Roost
Big Sir Ed Nissen opened the meeting at 8:00 AM. Big Sir Nissen called for self introductions of the 2009 Officers, Directors, Committee Representatives and guests. Secretary Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). The minutes of the February 2, 2009 BEC meeting were approved as electronically sent to all Officers and Directors. (Legg/Vacca).
TREASURER'S REPORT:
Treasurer Rich Brandau reported a beginning balance of $5650.13 and an ending balance of $5293.39 for the month of February. The expenses for the month were printing and supplies - $93; Postage - $84; Guest Expenses - $13 and Website - $406. The Treasurer’s Report was approved. (Nelson/Bamford).
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance Chairman Herb Spierling reported that 13 Sirs have called that they would not be attending the luncheon meeting. Assistant Attendance Chairman Bill Bamford reported that 12 guests will be attending.
MEMBERSHIP:
Membership Chairman Ralph Legg requested approval to accept the membership applications for the following: Michael Robert, James Stephens and George Murphy. Approved (Robinson/Bamford). Applicant Roger Carlson will be inducted at the April Luncheon Meeting. The membership stands at 150 active and 4 inactive.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
LUNCHEON: Sir Henry Beltran reported that all is set for Thursday’s luncheon. Sir Beltran will request a setup for 135 plus the head table. Many Sirs have stated how much they have enjoyed luncheon social mixers, whereby you are seated by 'luck-of-the-draw.’ Big Sir Nissen declared that May would be another social mixer. Big Sir Nissen volunteered Sir Dick Feaster to help with the seating.
PROGRAM: Thursday’s program will be presented by Peter Carrillo, who operates Practical Dreamers, sponsored by Area 12 Agency on Aging. Mr. Carrillo’s program is entitled “Getting Old is not for Wimps”. Next month’s program will be presented by Don Bilotti of Stage 3 Theater of Sonora.
COMPUTER USERS GROUP: No Report.
WEB PAGE: No Report.
GOLF: Sir Richard Broddie reported that the next play will be at Don Pedro on March 10, 2009.
BULLETIN: Sir Stu Heller requested that all bulletin items be submitted to him by March 9. Sir Heller stated that the March Bulletin will be published a week later than usual.
PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that he had submitted the luncheon notice to both the Union Democrat and the Sierra Mountain Times. Sir Wesson noted that Sierra Mountain Times published the meeting notice. The Union Democrat has yet to publish the notice.
TRAVEL: Sir Earl Nelson reported that the March 6
trip to Golden Gate Fields has been cancelled due to lack of interest and
suggested that the few who want to attend do so by carpooling. Sir Nelson
reported that 10 Sirs/guests have signed on for the
RV: No Report.
THEATER: Sir Rich Brandau reported that the play Fiddler on the Roof on March 18 is sold out at ninety nine Sirs/guests, and that 52 will be having dinner after the play.
HIKING GROUP: Sir Jerry Jensen reported that the hike
at the Glory Hole Recreation Area, New Molones Reservoir that was scheduled for
Tuesday, February 17, 2009, was rained out and requested approval to reschedule
for March 11, weather permitting, or March 17 if March 11 is rained out, car
pooling from the
MOVIE: Sir Gil Wesson requested approval for a movie for the month of March at the East Sonora Regal Entertainment Theater, at a date to be determined. Approved (Robinson/Bamford).
FELLOWSHIP: Sir Larry Bertuccelli reported that he will send an appropriate card to the spouse of Sir John Snodgrass, who passed away on February 28, 2009.
OLD BUSINESS:
Attendance Regulation:
Following a somewhat lengthy discussion, Big Sir Nissen requested Secretary Dan Mohn, with the assistance of Sir Dennis Honeychurch and Sir Herb Spierling, to rewrite the Branch Attendance Regulation and return it to the April BEC for consideration.
NEW BUSINESS:
Sir Ron Clark requested to be heard concerning the fees that the Branch Golf Club charges Club members and guest players and the protocol used by the Club. Sir Richard Broddie, Golf Club Chairman explained the various fees and conventions of the Club. Following a lengthy discussion, Big Sir Ed Nissen appointed Sirs Ralph Legg, Richard Robinson and Jerry Lewis to serve as a committee to hear Sir Ron Clark’s grievance and report back to the BEC at its April meeting with improvement recommendations, if any. Sir Ron Clark and Sir Richard Broddie will give input to the committee.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 AM.
The
next Executive Committee Meeting will be 8:00 AM, Monday, March 30, 2009 at
Papa’s New Roost with breakfast starting at 7:00 AM. The monthly luncheons are
held on the first Thursday of each month at the Sonora Elks’ Lodge.
