SONS IN RETIREMENT
MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Meeting Date: March 01, 2010 Place: Papa's New Roost
Big Sir Earl Nelson opened the meeting at 8:00 AM and called for self introductions. Big Sir Nelson noted that even with more than 5 regular attendees absent, our meeting room at Papa’s New Roost was filled to capacity. Secretary Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). The minutes of the February 01, 2010 Branch Executive Committee meeting were approved as electronically transmitted to each Officer and Director. (Escallier/Ray).
TREASURER'S REPORT:
Treasurer Dennis Honeychurch reported a beginning balance of $6132.76 and an ending balance of $6156.73 for the month of February. The main expenses for the month were printing, supplies - $78.16; Postage - $88.00; Guest Expenses - $20.00; and, Answering Service - $8. The Treasurer’s Report was approved (Vaca/Beltran).
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance Chairman Bill Anning reported that 17 Sirs have called that they would not be attending the luncheon meeting. Assistant Attendance Chairman Harvey Uhl reported that 15 guests will be attending.
MEMBERSHIP:
Membership Chairman Larry Bertuccelli reported that Sir Ross Jones had passed away. In addition Sir Bertuccelli requested approval for the following Sirs to be moved to the inactive list: Sir Don Elder and Sir Dick Feaster. Approved (Nissen/Robinson). The membership stands at 148 active and 6 inactive.
STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:
LUNCHEON: Sir Jim McCracken reported that all is set for Thursday’s luncheon. Sir McCracken will request a setup for 130 plus the head table.
PROGRAM: Little Sir Henry Beltran reported that Thursday’s Luncheon Program will be a presentation by Linda Clark, Teller of Tales, Spinner of Yarns and Keeper of the History. It is noted that Linda Clark is the wife of Sir Don Clark.
COMPUTER USERS GROUP: The meeting held at the China House, in Twain Harte on February 18th was very well attended by more than 30 Sirs and a few spouses.

BULLETIN: Sir Stu Heller requested that all items for the April bulletin be submitted to him by Monday, March 8th.
PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that the Sierra Mountain Times is no longer in business; the Sonora Union Democrat has published a notice of Thursday’s Luncheon Meeting.
TRAVEL: Big Sir Earl Nelson, Travel Chairman, reported that the September 2010 trip to Eastern Canada is sold out and that the bus for SIR Day at the Races has been filled. The trip to the Oregon Rose Festival and The Ashland Shakespeare Festival is close to being filled.
RV: Sir Jim Nolan reported that the May trip has been cancelled due to not having someone volunteer to be Wagon Master, and that additional trips may have to be cancelled for the same reason. Sir Nolan will call a meeting of the RV Club and discuss a reduced schedule for the remainder of the season.
THEATER: Sir Rich Brandau requested approval for the 2010 Theater Schedule consisting of the following Plays with dinner to follow each play:
Guys and Dolls on March 17th at the East Sonora Theater
Dial M for Murder on April 14th at the Fallon Theater in Columbia
Stand By Your Man on June 16th at the Fallon House Theater in Columbia
The Marvelous Wonderettes on July 14th at the East Sonora Theater
Big River on August 25th at the Fallon House Theater in Columbia
Red, White and Tuna at the Fallon House Theater in Columbia
and,
The Andrew Sisters – Christmas of Swing at the Fallon House Theater in Columbia

Sir Rich Brandau reported that 89 Sirs and guests/spouses will be attending the first play of the season, Guys and Dolls on March 17th, at the East Sonora Repertory Theater, and 58 will be attending the dinner following the play at Banny’s Mountain Springs.
HIKING GROUP: No Report
MOVIE: Sir Gil Wesson requested approval for a Movie at the Regal Cinema’s Stadium 10 Theater at a time and date to be determined, and either lunch before or dinner after the movie. Approved (Nelson/Mohn).
FELLOWSHIP: Sir Bill Bamford reported that Sir Ross Jones had passed away; Sir Steve Morrow had injured himself in a fall; and, that Sir Dick Bezerra was recovering from surgery. Appropriate cards have been sent.
HISTORIAN: No Report
FISHING: Sir Herb Spierling reported that he has been coordinating with Sonora Branch 136’s Fishing Group regarding scheduled SIR fishing trips. Two trips have been scheduled: March 23rd to Lake Don Pedro; and May 13th to 16th to Bridgeport and requested Twain Harte Branch 172 approval for Twain Harte Sirs to participate with Branch 136. Approved (Beltran/Ray).
OLD BUSINESS:
Big Sir Earl Nelson reported that he has appointed Past Big Sir Ed Nissen Chairman of the nominating committee for 2011 Branch Officers and Directors, and requested that Sir Nissen be given the name(s) of Sirs whom you think should be nominated for the committee’s consideration. The nominating committee will report its nominations to the membership at the June luncheon meeting and publish the nominations in the June Bulletin. The elections will be held at the July luncheon meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
Big Sir Earl Nelson announced that the April luncheon will be a “Mixer”. Big Sir Nelson reported that he has had a request for the formation of a biking group. Assuming that this will be a “Mountain Biking" Group, Big Sir Nelson requested Secretary Dan Mohn to check the SIR rules to ascertain whether this could be a SIR sanctioned group. Secretary Mohn will report back to the BEC at its next meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 AM.
The next Executive Committee Meeting will be 8:00 AM, Monday, March 29, 2010, at The Pine Tree Restaurant, next to the Best Western, at 19601 Hess Avenue, with breakfast starting at 7:00 AM. The monthly luncheons are held on the first Thursday of each month at the Sonora Elks’ Lodge with the exception of August and December.
