MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

 

 

            Meeting Date: January 3, 2011                                               Place: Pine Tree Restaurant 

 

Big Sir Henry Beltran opened the meeting at 8:00 AM and welcomed all new and continuing Officers, Directors and Committee Chairmen. Big Sir Beltran then called for self introductions.   Secretary Dan Mohn reported that a quorum was present (see attached attendance report). Big Sir Beltran called for corrections to and/or approval of the 11-29-10 Minutes as they were written and electronically transmitted to the Branch Officers and Directors.  Approved (Escallier/Granados).   

 

TREASURER'S REPORT:

Treasurer Dennis Honeychurch reported a beginning balance of $7151.56 and an ending balance of $3612.84 for the month of December. The main expenses for the month were: Printing & Supplies - $157.44; Postage – $105.60; Officers Expense – 56.00; Visitor’s Expense - $50.00; and, Answering Service - $7.95. In addition, $4557.30 was disbursed for the Christmas Dinner Party. The Treasurer’s Report was approved (Porter/Gill).  

 

ATTENDANCE:

Attendance Chairman Bill Anning reported that 9 Sirs had called that they would not be attending the luncheon. Sir Jim Schneider reported that 5 guests would be attending.   

 

MEMBERSHIP:

Membership Chairman Larry Bertuccelli reported that the following Sirs had submitted their resignations: Gary Pendleton; Dick Feaster; Bob Becker; and Dennis Rizzi. Two have moved from the area, and two were no longer interested in SIR. Sir Bertuccelli further reported that he had received membership applications from Jim Hastings; Lyn Taber; Jack Samuelian; and John Quartarolo. Sir Bertuccelli requested that the BEC accept the resignations and approve the new member applications. Approved (Honeychurch/Escallier). Sir Bertuccelli reported that Ed Mintine, sponsored by Sir Paul Desrosiers; Art Bartee, sponsored by Sir Larry Bertuccelli; and, Bruce McCulloch, sponsored by Sir John Schwartz, are scheduled for induction at Thursday’s Luncheon Meeting.

 

STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

LUNCHEON: Sir Jim McCracken reported that all is set for Thursday’s luncheon serving Roast Beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables and desert.   

 

PROGRAM: The speaker for Thursday’s Luncheon will be Craig Pedro, Tuolumne County Chief Administrative Officer, who will discuss major problems facing Tuolumne County for 2011.

 

COMPUTER USERS GROUP: Sir Dick Chimenti, by email, requested authorization to spend up to $10 to make prints of Christmas Party pictures for SIR members to have. Approved (Honeychurch/Granados).

 

WEB PAGE: No Report.

 

GOLF: No Report.  

 

BULLETIN: Sir Stu Heller requested that all items for the November bulletin be submitted to him by Monday, January 10th.

 

PUBLICITY: Sir Gil Wesson reported that the Union Democrat published a notice of the January Luncheon meeting.  

 

TRAVEL: Sir Earl Nelson reported that 18 Sirs and spouses/guests have signed up for the May 2011 trip to Tuscany, Italy. The trip to Hawaii for September is in question because the only staterooms available are the more expensive balcony rooms.

 

FISHING: Sir Herb Spierling, by email, has temporarily resigned as Fishing Group Chairman because of surgery and a two or three month recovery period; and has requested that a substitute chairman be appointed for that period.

 

RV: Sir Jim Nolan, Wagon Master for 2011 reported that the RV Club is working on its 2011 schedule and will submit the schedule for approval at the next BEC meeting.

 

THEATER: Sir Richard Brandau, by email, submitted the following 2011 play list for approval:

PINOCHLE: Sir Roland Patton requested approval to play on the third Thursday of each month starting 12 noon at the Moose Lodge on Longeway Avenue in Soulsbyville.   Approved (Granados/Porter).

 

HIKING GROUP: Sir Jerry Jensen requested approval for a snowshoe hike on January 18, along the Goose Berry Trail at Dodge Ridge, carpooling from the Twain Harte Market parking lot at 9:00 AM.  (Honeychurch/Escallier).

 

MOVIE: Sir Gil Wesson requested approval for two Movies and Dinners during January at the Regal Cinemas Stadium 10 Theater. One movie will be for Sirs only, and the second will be for Sirs and Wives/Guests. The actual date will be determined when the theater schedule becomes available.   Approved (Porter/Escallier).

 

FELLOWSHIP: Sir Bill Bamford reported that Sir Herb Spierling will have surgery on January 4, and that an appropriate card will be sent.

 

MOUNTAIN BIKING: Sir Dennis Honeychurch reported that mountain biking will resume in the spring.

                       

OLD BUSINESS:

Sir Joe Gill reported that the glassware and flatware set out by the Elks Lodge for the Christmas Party had smudges and lipstick stains. Sir Gill helped the setup crew replace the soiled table ware. The Big Sir will send a letter to the Elks Lodge informing them of the situation and request that the tableware be absolutely clean and sanitary before being set out.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Big Sir Henry Beltran informed the BEC that its July meeting would be held at 9:30 AM July 7th because of the July 4th conflict; and the 2011 Christmas Party will be on December 16th at the Elks Lodge, as that was the best available date. 

 

All business having been concluded, the meeting was adjourned at 9:05 AM.

 

The next Executive Committee Meeting will be 8:00 AM, Monday, January 31, 2011, at The Pine Tree Restaurant, next to the Best Western Motel, at 19601 Hess Avenue, with breakfast starting at 7:00 AM. The monthly luncheons are held on the first Thursday of each month at the Sonora Elks’ Lodge with the exception of August, which is the Ladies Day Picnic at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown, sponsored by the RV Club.
